The Lacey Senior Center has a lot to offer it's members! Located in Woodland Creek Community Park, this facility features a cozy lobby and a large veranda overlooking the park’s tranquil pond. The building, which opened at its Woodland Creek Community Park location in 2003, has experienced dramatic increases in demand — from 257 members during its opening, to nearly 900 senior patrons today. Senior social activities, classes, and noon meals are provided Monday through Friday.
The City of Lacey saw this growth and received $1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to expand the building, which would become an over $3 million project. The recent award marks the seventh time Lacey has benefited from the block grant program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered locally by the Washington State Department of Commerce. Prior projects included construction of the existing senior center, the Lacey Child Care Center, and several low-income housing rehabilitation and preservation projects.
The expansion project doubled the size of the original 5,000-square-foot facility, increasing capacity in the kitchen, dining and multi-purpose rooms, and creating additional space for senior health, education and other services.
Construction was completed in August of 2013. The remodeled Lacey Senior Center has been greatly appreciated by the senior community and we are continually adding to our list of program offerings at the Center.
